The Good and Bad Benefits of Chlorine in Drinking Water

Posted under health information,Health tips by Kayce on Wednesday 1 February 2012 at 10:06 pm

We received a lot of donation stuffs from UNICEF a few days ago. They donated household and personal items like bath soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, detergent bars, pail and dipper and so much more. They also gave a water jug with these drinking water disinfectant. I was actually curious about this kind of disinfectant so I followed the instructions on how to put it in a tap water. I also want to know how it tastes like.

This sodium hypochorite or commonly known as chlorine has  been the trusted and reliable disinfectant  in killing off most microorganisms in the water. Without chlorine or some other form of water disinfection treatment, millions of people would die from devastating infections such as cholera, salmonella and others.

The only bad thing about chlorine treatment is that it does not absolutely ensure that by the time our drinking water comes out of our home faucet it is free of unhealthy microorganisms.Dangerous bacteria are still found in chlorinated tap water on occasion specially here in our place where we are severely affected by the flood.  Even if we are using chlorine,  we are not sure of its effectiveness. Relying on chlorine disinfection alone is a false guarantee that the water from our tap is safe to drink so I still prefer to buy bottled water in a water refilling station.

Posted under Health,Health advice,Wellness by Kayce on Friday 4 November 2011 at 2:31 am

Why do us girls love to go shopping? well, as a shopaholic myself, I just love the thrill of looking for something that I would like to buy. Shopping is a necessary way for me to follow trends and stay up to date too. It also serves as my pleasurable hobby. It’s really fun and for shopping lovers like me knows where the bargains are and how to find them, it becomes a great way to spend some enjoyable time.

Did you know that shopping also does wonders for a woman’s health and helps her live longer? Research have proven that those women who shopped almost everyday are more likely to live longer than the average women. You can get some benefits just by shopping and walking since walking 20 minutes everyday helps strengthen your heart and increases your lifespan. Women who also shop with a company of other women just like what we did together with my fellow mommy friends  helps build social bonds and communication.

Shopping also helps maintain a positive self image specially if you have a good bargaining skills and picking up a flattering outfit make you feel good about yourself . Whether you are shopping for yourself or buying gifts for others, the end result is you feel good in it. That’s why women shop when they are stressed out or if their having a bad day. Shopping helps  us to have a good mood feeling that’s why we get a happy high, right ladies?

Fasting to Lose Weight?

Posted under Health,Health advice,Health tips,Lose weight by Kayce on Thursday 27 October 2011 at 2:40 am

Our church music team is currently having their 3 days fasting in preparation for our upcoming concert. I also fast but I only did it for one day. I have tried fasting before for 3 days and we just stayed in the church. My fasting diet is only water and juice but I thanked God that I was able to survive it. For some people, they fast as a way to lose weight or to cleanse the body. Some fasting diets involve drinking nothing but water or eating only raw foods for a period of one or more days, while others restrict food on alternate days. Certain fasting diets only allow liquids like water, juice or tea and that’s what I usually do.

When you fast, your body is actually forced to dip into energy stores to get the fuel it needs to keep going, so you will lose weight. The big question is how long you will keep that weight off?  you will probably gain back the weight you lost and possibly even put on more weight when eating the same calories you did before the fast. Research has shown that fasting on alternate days can help people lose weight, but not for long. I think this one will one work out for me because people who followed an alternate day fasting diet shed weight, even when they ate all they wanted on the non-fasting days.

Always Sleepy Disorder

Posted under Health by Kayce on Wednesday 19 October 2011 at 3:45 pm

I don’t know why but I noticed that I always feel sleepy this time. It started when I’m having a reverse sleeping routine where I usually sleep at around 2 am dawn time and I wake up at around 10 am in the morning. I sleep for eight hours but I still wake up tired, groggy and unrefreshed.

Ive searched about this kind of sleeping disorder and I found out there is something  happening that prevents my body and brain from entering those deep, restorative levels of sleep. They call it Narcolepsy’s where its main symptoms are excessive sleepiness during the day  that cause people to fall asleep uncontrollably during normal waking hours.

I think I should do something about it and don’t just live with a sleep problem since it will be a sign of laziness and lack of motivation. I need to have a significant help with these always sleepy disorder  in order to keep being physically and mentally healthy.

Why Do We Need to Meditate?

Posted under Health,Health advice,Health tips by Kayce on Thursday 13 October 2011 at 6:36 am

Did you know that people who meditate everyday are many times happier than those who don’t? They’re also healthier and their sense of well-being is much greater . I have a meditator friend who shared to me her experience on how she live a life that’s stress free! She told me that with the help of meditation, she dramatically had a better mental health.

She has less anxiety, anger, depression and fear and she also has better human relationships,  made more friends and feel much more fulfilled in her life.  I think its also time for me spend some time for myself, be alone and meditate.  I want to get the overall sense of well being and get benefited from it in order to continue having that positive outlook in life. Perhaps a meditation program could help me on it.

An Aggressive and Deadly Disease

Posted under Health by Kayce on Friday 7 October 2011 at 12:17 pm

The Apple founder and visionary leader Steve Jobs, the guy that brought us the iPhone, iPod and iPad died last Wednesday of pancreatic cancer at the age of 56. Jobs was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004 and had battled cancer in the recent years. Pancreatic cancer is an aggressive, fast growing form of the disease which often takes its victims within five years after diagnosis.

Pancreatic cancer is categorized depending on whether it affects the functions of the pancreas. There is an important distinction between the two broad types of pancreatic cancer because they have different risk factors, causes, symptoms, diagnostic tests and treatment.

Tumors that affect the exocrine functions are the most common type of pancreatic cancer. Sometimes these tumors or cysts are benign and cancer is ultimately the result of cells that uncontrollably grow and do not die. Normal cells in the body follows an orderly path of growth, division and death.

Although cancer  may be treated but it depends on the type of cancer, the stage on how much it has spread, age, health status, and additional personal characteristics. Pancreatic cancer is usually only curable when found in its earliest stages. Surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are the most common treatment types. This kind of treatments seek to remove the cancer and relieve painful symptoms that causes the cancer.

Getting that Six Pack Abs

Posted under Fitness by Kayce on Monday 3 October 2011 at 1:39 pm

My hubby used to have that six pack abs before. He has a good body and muscle tone but when we got married, he started having some belly fats. I think one of the main reason is that he doesn’t have time to do some exercise. He told me lately that he wants to get back his sexy abs so I advise him to do some six pack abs workouts that includes an intense abdominal workout.

Ive heard about this kind of workout routine from my friend who also did this stomach exercise. He told me that its the fastest way to get that rock hard abs. The most popular ab exercises are usually planks, crunches and bicycles. Ill ask more info about it here in our local gym and hire a personal trainer for my hubby.

Itching and Diabetes

Posted under Health by Kayce on Saturday 17 September 2011 at 7:05 am

I noticed that I easily get bruised and wounded even if its just a little scratch. I got an itchy skin specially when I eat sweets. I have been told that it might be the symptoms of diabetes.  I have searched online about this so called localized itching that is often caused by diabetes and I think its true.According to research, it is caused by a yeast infection, dry skin or poor circulation.

In my case, I do have a dry skin and has a poor circulation and the itchiest areas of my body are my arms and legs.I was advised that I should use mild soap with moisturizer and apply some skin cream after bathing. Hubby and I are also having a jock itch and I think its about time that we have to visit a dermatologist and get a prescription to take care of this problem.
